It's a challenge for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

We're talking about the squad that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, plus six more T20 titles, and earlier maintained 1,294 days without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, those for the achievement hunters, are all that remain for a side that has won it all.

That it took up to Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase exceeding 300, reclaiming their record for the largest in the women's 50-over format, is, in truth, a compliment to the bowlers that have worn canary yellow over the past 50 years.

It's challenging for their hitters to hold a record if not afforded the opportunity.

In the end, the result of Australia conceding 330 was leader Alyssa Healy being given a chance to create her most recent brilliance.

Initially recognized as the 19-year-old niece of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after Australia failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups conducted earlier and has experienced everything through 15 championship-filled years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup arrived three months after her first appearance and seven international trophies have come from 10 attempts across formats.

The gritty keeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India briefly halted the successful run.

That loss "drove us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy said this week.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the title decider and was declared player of the series. She guaranteed her country would not fall short again.

Whether this latest epic knock surpassed that earlier display is debatable.

Some will argue the case for final game tension. Others can counter with the difficulty that comes when facing a record target and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's clear is this century was considerably tougher to see coming.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 happened while she was the highest scorer, but this performance came after six matches in India since the start of last month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've observed me in training, it's been a frustrating experience because it seemed I've had no rhythm at all," commented Healy.

"But once you enter the playing area, your competitive nature take over and you completely engage with the match."

Healy's competitive nature has continuously been her major advantage - and an invaluable trait in succeeding legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, out to the young fast bowler in every game, but here that only provided Healy's spark.

One run resulted off the opening delivery and from that point the batsman was underway.

"An opportunity to play and engage in competition with her and simply enjoy myself in that aspect, kind of motivated me," said Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 deliveries - her fastest at the World Cup - and her ton in 84 as she attacked short-pitched balls, scoring 21 fours and three maximums.

When she was removed the team needed 66 additional runs at one run per ball - a manageable total now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Pursuing 330 is unfamiliar ground so I'm happy we have the confidence to do that now," continued Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it another time but, if necessary, we know we can do it."

These statements will be the final thing rival teams at this World Cup need to hear.

In recent days a feeling they will triumph from any situation has only strengthened - this victory succeeding success over Pakistan by 107 run margin despite sitting at 76-7 at one point.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a match against traditional opponents England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final place may probably be guaranteed.

It was at that stage they exited the previous year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a match Healy missed because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she led her country for the inaugural occasion at a major tournament.

So strong is her resolve, she subsequently stated she wished she had played with the discomfort.

But while she subsequently acknowledged those injuries have pushed back consideration of ending her career, this championship is anticipated as her final tournament as skipper in one-day cricket and she is still to achieve a global event as leader.

Victory in India would take her to the summit of her final mountain.
